Releasing on Physical Media

Guide
Replication vs Duplication — Which is Right for You?

The two most common methods of CD production work very differently and suit different needs. Replication is factory-pressed from a glass master and is the standard for runs of 500+ — it produces the same quality disc you find in retail stores. Duplication burns data to blank media and is ideal for small runs from 25–500 units with faster turnaround. Both can use the same packaging options. If you're unsure, the quantity is usually the deciding factor: under 500, duplication. Over 500, replication will be more cost-effective per unit.

Preparing Your Audio Master for CD Production

Your audio master should be a DDP (Disc Description Protocol) image file — this is the industry standard for CD replication. Alternatively, a properly sequenced set of WAVE files at 16-bit / 44.1kHz will also work. Make sure your mastering engineer has sequenced the tracks with the correct PQ codes (ISRC codes, track IDs, pauses) before you send files. If you're unsure whether your master is ready, contact us and we can advise.

Choosing Your CD Packaging Format

The packaging format you choose has a big impact on both cost and the feel of your release. Standard jewel cases are the most affordable and durable — great for retail. Digipaks (folded cardboard) are premium and eco-friendly, popular for artist releases. Card sleeves are the most minimal and sustainable option. Slim cases sit between jewel and sleeve in terms of profile. Talk to us if you want samples before committing — we can usually arrange this.

Artwork Submission: Common Mistakes to Avoid

The most common artwork issues we see are: RGB files instead of CMYK (colours will shift on press), missing bleed (white edges after trimming), fonts not embedded (text reflows or substitutes), and low-resolution images. All of these cause delays and sometimes reprints. Review our Design Specs page carefully and run through the checklist before submitting. If you're working with a designer, share the specs page with them directly.

FAQ

How long does a CD replication order take? +

Typical replication turnaround is 10–15 business days from approval of your proof. Duplication orders are usually faster — often 5–7 business days. Timelines depend on quantity, complexity of packaging, and current production schedules. If you have a hard deadline, tell us upfront and we'll do our best to accommodate it. Rush orders may be possible with additional fees.

Do you offer design services? +

We offer design support and guidance — including templates, dielines, and artwork review — but we don't provide a full design service. We can recommend trusted designers in our network if you need help with your artwork. Once you have your design ready, we'll review it for print-readiness before it goes to press.

Can I order a physical proof before my full run? +

Yes — physical proofs (pre-production samples) are available for most products. A digital proof is included as standard and must be approved before production begins. Physical proofs incur an additional cost and add time to the schedule, but are highly recommended for custom packaging or high-value orders. Ask about this when you request a quote.

Do you ship internationally? +

Yes. While our operations are based in Australia, we can ship finished goods internationally. Shipping costs and timelines vary by destination and quantity. Include your delivery address and country when requesting a quote so we can factor in shipping costs accurately.

What payment methods do you accept? +

We accept bank transfer (EFT) and credit card. A deposit is typically required to confirm your order, with the balance due prior to dispatch. Full payment terms will be included in your quote.
